So this article is a continuation of ‘Why Everyone Should Know How the Body Works – Part 1′. If you’ve not read that article already go ahead a give it a read before starting on this one.
Firstly, we always want you to keep in mind that Establish Life, is here to encourage you to discover and consider the benefits of treating your body right, which starts with getting to know how it works!
With that said let’s get straight into part 2…
THE Cause & Effects of Prolonged wrong habits
The more we learn about our bodies, the more able and empowered we should become to intelligently take responsibility of our health. Having come this far we will understand that no disease comes without a cause, as the Proverbs says, “the curse causeless shall not come” (Proverbs 26:2).
Another word for ‘curse’ is ‘illness’ or ‘disease’, and more times than not it is as a result of our bodies somehow being mistreated (as discussed in part 1). This is because nature (our bodies) is governed by laws which require complete obedience, and to every neglect of these laws there is a consequences. Sadly, for the human race the ultimate results of disobedience is death (Romans 6:23), but thankfully it doesn’t have to end there!
Disease often creeps up on us, through unmanaged stress, lack of rest etc., it is a progressive breaking down of that vital force (reserve), that we call life. It begins with small neglects, small compromises, until they become large and unmanageable. We become addicted to doing things our own way and in our own time, ignoring the signs that our mind/body are giving us that we need to make some changes. The wise man Solomon said it well, “His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.” (Proverbs 5:22). These cords that can hold us are in our minds, they are strengthened for good or for evil. We choose with every thought, word and action what cords are holding us.
In studying or bodies let us not forget that our brain/mind is part of the picture, and by effectively learning the principles that govern our bodies we are in a better position to avoid many of the diseases that are prevalent in the United Kingdom and the world including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and many more.
Help the body heal
Knowing that disease and addictions come because of choices that we make or that have been made on our behalf (i.e. a Mother eating poorly whilst pregnant, abusing drugs and alcohol, vaccinations etc), we must come to a point in our lives where we recognise this and decide to make better choices in our lifestyle, diet etc. Also consider sunlight, pure water, rest, exercise, fresh air as these are all essential to life. We see this in the encounter of the Good Samaritan, the injured man who was half dead having been robbed, was helped, and the Samaritan used olive oil and grape juice to assist in the healing of his wounds (Luke 10:34).
It becomes very clear that the wages or result of disobedience to health laws is eventually death.
We are made out of dust, therefore plant based diet benefits us more than anything else. In fact it for our service or our good, as expressed by King David, “He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth” (Psalm 104:14). While another writer confirms that “the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations” (Revelation 22:2).
While there are many things that we can do ourselves, there are one thing that we can’t do, to heal ourselves. Only the Maker of the body is able to do this. It’s like gardening, we can prepare the ground, sow the seed, water the ground, even to remove the weeds; but we don’t know if or how we’ll get the fruits from our plants.
We need that child-like trust in our Father in heaven, because He will do the rest when we do our part. This trust will give us hope, peace, confidence and a “merry heart” that “doeth good like a medicine” (Provers 17:22).
Training the Mind to Rule the body
Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:14). Scientists, no matter how much time they put in, will never comprehend all the mysteries of the human body. But we enough about the body to come to the realisation that we are not a product of chance, but that “the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves” (Psalms 100:3).
It is the privilege of every person to have a sound mind and to control ourselves, but we must choose to do so. Our physical body has the inclination to please itself, but when ruled by a mind that relies on God, the sick will find the best results.
One can conclude, that our bodies are precious to our Maker, and He wants us to feel the same way too.
In the heart is found our emotions, which are closely connected to our thoughts, for the Proverb says, “as he thinketh in his heart, so is he”. Thoughts and feelings make up who we are, and by good care of both, we will do well in health. Your mind is like a King on the throne, and training your body to serve it is a vey important duty for each of us.
Because we are valuable to Him, we should know our value
Having studied our body to a degree of understanding, we now know that our lives are precious to our Maker (as the outcome of the clay work is to the potter), and He wants us to feel the same way.
Only through this may we truly know how much He cares for us. We show our appreciation by acknowledging Our Maker all and honouring Him with our gifts, out hearts, strength, talents and money and yes even our bodies!
