There are many misunderstandings regarding the Millennium, but what does the Bible actually says about this?

The period of the Millennium, or thousand (1000) years commences at Christ’s Second Coming. The earth is left desolate as the wicked have been destroyed by His coming, and the righteous have been translated to heaven. God leaving earth emptied of human-beings with no one to deceive, Satan is bound with a chain of circumstances.

During the Millennium, the righteous conduct a judicial review prior to the final (executive) judgment, and the creation of the new earth. It will be seen that Jesus will finally and forever live together with His people on the earth, as He intended in the beginning.

Who will reign with Christ for a 1000 years and what other blessing do they enjoy? Revelation 20:6
“6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

The saints are in the first resurrection, who are included in the second, if it exists? John 5:28-29
“28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.” (See also daniel 12:2 and Acts 24:15 which confirms it.)

When do the dead in Christ rise from their graves? 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
“16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (See also Matthew 24:31)

Where are the righteous resurrected and the righteous living transported to at the second coming? John 14:2-3
“2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

What will happens to the wicked who are not caught up? 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
“7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” (See also 2 Thessalonians 2:8, highlighting that Christ brightness will destroy the wicked.)

Were the wicked warned before their destruction? Luke 17:26-30
“26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; 29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (See also 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, which says, despised being warned, the wicked are caught off guard.)

Is the destruction of the wicked fair? Isaiah 11:44
“But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.” (See also Revelation 19:21.)

After Christ’s decent with a shout, what condition are the wicked left in? Jeremiah 25:30-33; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
“30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes,  against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. 32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. 33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.” (See also 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, which reminds us of the Lord’s roar, shout or voice at His return.)

When are the wicked (who are destroyed at the at Christ’s return) resurrected? Revelation 20:4-5
“4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.” (See also Isaiah 24:21-22, which indicates that the wicked proud will return to the dust, and must remain there until they are resurrected, after many days or a thousand years.)

The first and second resurrection mark the beginning and the end  respectively of the Millennium.

What happens on earth during the Millennium? Revelation 20:1-2
“1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,“ (See also Genesis 1:2, where the word “deep” is synonymous to “bottomless pit” (Gr. Abussos), which describes  the earth in it desolate form.)

How is Satan, an angel, bound with chains and shut up? Revelation 20:3
“3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.”

Satan is bound by a chain of circumstances as he has none to tempt. The saints are in heaven and the wicked are dead. That “he must be loosed a little season” means he can deceive the wicked, resurrected after the 1000 years.

How does Jeremiah describe the fearful condition of the earth during millennium? Jeremiah 4:23-27
“23 I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. 24 I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. 25 I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. 26 I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. 27 For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.”

How many people are left alive during this period? Isaiah 24:1-3
“1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. 2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him. 3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.”

What will the righteous do in heaven during the Millennium? Revelation 20:4
This is the first resurrection.”

Who will they judge? 1 Corinthians 6:2-3
“2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?”

When will this judgement take place, and why can’t we judge now? 1 Corinthians 4:5
“5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.”

God will show the righteous why some are saved and others are lost, revealing intent of the heart.

After the millennium, how is Satan released, and what is the consequence for his followers? Revelation 20:7-9
“7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, 8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”

Where does the city come from? Revelation 21:2, 10
“2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. … 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God”. (See also Revelation 3:12 which confirms it.)

Where does it settle on earth? Zechariah 14:4-5
“4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.”

What happens with death, hell and the wicked who are not found written in the book of life? Revelation 20:13-14
“13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

What will happen after the second death? Revelation 21:1, 3-5
“1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. … 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.” (See also Isaiah 65:17, which confirms that God will renew this heaven and earth, purging it from the taint and mar of sin.)

What will the resident of the new heavens and earth possess? 2 Peter 3:13
“13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
